It's about that time of the year when I start planning our trip to Universal Studios Florida's Halloween Horror nights.
Little information about this year's event have been released so far but the event has only been getting better each year.... and this year will be the big 25th anniversary so it should be better than ever! Halloween Horror Nights is my favorite event of the year, honestly. As the event approaches, I will be keeping my eye on the media and on blogs to be one of the first to find out what houses have been selected. About a week out from the event, I read other blogs of HHN lovers describing how to navigate the event (trust me, there is a strategy). For a while, I am transformed into what closely resembles a football coach, or someone planning their big black friday haul. This year our group plans to be going with the VIP experience. Last year, we missed out on a few of the big houses because the attendance is growing each year and despite the hardcore planning visiting the houses without waiting in line for one hour or more. If you love horror films and or being scared... Horror nights in Orlando or Hollywood come highly recommended! If you have any questions on the topic, let me know! All around the horror community there is the babadook buzz. I was excited to watch this film because the hype surrounding it was intense with statements like:
"Terrifies from first to final frame" "There goes your peaceful nights sleep. " "An expertly unsettling horror movie" I hoped this was all it was said to be. Perhaps it just couldn't live up to my high hopes these days. The movie is about a fragile family; a widowed, overworked mother and a child who needs extra care. The child is already afraid of monsters when a creepy children's book appears on the shelf. Without spoiling the film for you further... I did like the movie but its not something I will watch again. The acting was superb. I hope to see these two in movies again. The creepy children's book? The rhymes are catchy and the drawings are very sinister. The film overall was just another classic family battles said entity type. I was hoping for something a little more than that overdone trope. I couldn't understand why such an overused plot had a 98% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With that said, after reading other reviews on the film apparently the Babadook was supposed to be a metaphor completely. Perhaps I was just wanting to be thrilled and not wanting to read between the lines? Damn artsy films. What did you really think? Best horror movie in a while or just a good watch? Scare Factor: A creepy book and some uncomfortable scenes... Rating: ❤❤❤ We finally broke down and bought a tv with a Roku for the bedroom. Found Viewster... Now I am trying to find reasons not to leave the room. All the oldies and goldies.
Back to the grind!
It has been a crazy last few weeks filled with friends, colds, family, flights, shopping, gifts, Gizmo, work, and general adult struggles... It is such a crazy thing to go back home... and find everyone as they were when I left. It's like time stopped. I can't say I regret the decision to continue moving forward. Now that things are seemingly back to normal, some consistency in posts can be expected. Wee! Happy 2015! |
